The Squarespace x New York Knicks Make It Awards, now in their third year, recognize local entrepreneurs and small businesses that embody the hustle and grind of New York.

In 2003, CEO Anthony Casalena founded Squarespace with a $30,000 loan that he used to purchase the company’s first servers. Squarespace gives back to its hometown of New York City by helping four locally-based emerging businesses get ahead with a $30,000 grant each. The awards are given in partnership with Madison Square Garden.

Entrants submitted proposals on how the grant would support their business. Ten finalists were selected based on their proposals, their potential benefit to the tri-state area, innovativeness of their business, and branding and design. The four winners were chosen based on these criteria as well as the outcome of a social media voting process.

Without further adieu, the winners of the third annual Squarespace x New York Knicks Make It Awards are:

Dollaride

Dollaride allows users to see where licensed vans are operating within a one-mile radius, as well as where they are headed, helping commuters decide whether taking a van might be faster than waiting for a bus. Dollaride helps drivers of the original dollar van grow their ridership by creating lucrative new routes that expand their service territory, and makes public transit accessible to the people who live in transit deserts.

Fast Feet NYC

Fast Feet NYC is a non-profit that provides the physical, mental and social benefits of running to schools and communities that serve children with autism and developmental differences. With specialized team training, inclusive racing opportunities, and family events, Fast Feet NYC is committed to equality in athletics and education.

The Lead Athletics

The Lead Athletics (L.E.A.D) is a sports performance training company that provides student-athletes with the necessary tools to prosper, not only in their athletic communities and careers, but also will prepare them for fulfilling lives as they transition out of the world of sports.

Oonee

Oonee is bringing one of the world’s first dispersed bicycle parking and service network to the streets of NYC. It is a smart, modular, customizable pod that provides secure parking for bicycles as well as public space amenities. More recent updates to Oonee offers service hub features (such as air pumps, handywork, etc.) to request while bikes are parked.

Winners were honored on the court during a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. In addition to the $30,000 grant and on-court recognition, each winning business receives a one-on-one mentorship opportunity with one of the judges, promotional assets at Madison Square Garden, and a free Squarespace website for five years.

Congratulations to all our finalists and winners. Follow Squarespace on Instagram and Twitter for announcements about future Make It Awards.
